I made it through a family visit without going overboard. It’s first for me in a long time. We spent the last few days with my family and are finally back home. A potential problem I was able to get past was snacking in the car. It’s only a 3-hour drive, but I always have snacks available for my sons. This time I bought 100 calorie snack packs and organic fruit strips ahead of time. I also made sure we made our own coffee before we left instead of grabbing a pre-made coffee drink from the gas station. I’m slowly starting to plan a little better which is helping.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when we got there because there’s always a ton of really amazing food. There was a ton of really amazing food available this time, but everyone made sure there were plenty of lighter options too. I was able to fill up on salads, vegetables, sautéed greens, fruit, baked cabbage, and lighter proteins like shrimp, tilapia, and turkey. I even had small portions of a few of my favorites. I managed to stay within my limits the entire trip.
I didn’t exercise yesterday and got to bed late with the kids so I didn’t write here. That may happen from time to time. As long as I’m not skipping a post because I’m ashamed to admit I’ve lost track that’s OK. I’m still feeling good. It’s nice to have my family’s support. It helps when they all know what I’m trying to achieve because they’re all willing to help. It was a wonderful visit and it was really hard to leave. This year was particularly nice. Things change so much each year, and it’s fun to get to know everyone a little better even when you think you know them pretty well.
